Careers Education Information and Guidance

At Roding Valley High School we strongly believe in planning ahead for our students’ futures. We understand the importance of making informed decisions, so we make sure our students have access to all the relevant information and opportunities to make those decisions. We also acknowledge the need to start this process early.

Starting as early as Year 7 we encourage students to consider their strengths and the skills they have through a series of lessons. These lessons prepare them for looking at post 14 options and careers.

By the time the students are in Year 9 they will have received specific guidance regarding their option choices and have the opportunity to speak to employers and attend a careers fair.

During their KS4 years students will take part in a work experience placement, they will learn to produce CVs and letters of application.  They will be offered workshops in interview techniques and have a mock interview with a local employer.  They will be guided in how to make applications to college, sixth forms, apprenticeship schemes or jobs.  They will participate in Careers workshops in Year 10 and in Year 11 have a personalised individual careers meeting with our Careers Advisor Mrs Mason at Roding Valley or another Careers Advisor on request from the Epping Forest Consortium. They will also have the opportunity to meet with employers and Post 16 providers.

We aim to help all students thoroughly investigate career opportunities through a range of educational experiences and we invest in careers computer programmes to ensure that all students are given as much information and support as possible in order for them to make informed choices about their KS4 Options and Post-16 Pathways.

All students have access to college taster days and open days, inspirational talks, assemblies, apprenticeship workshops plus much more.

Our Careers Education and Guidance at Roding Valley aims to prepare all students for their adult and working life by contributing to the development of the fully rounded individual. We firmly believe that students should always be given the opportunity to develop their knowledge of themselves and be able to utilise all the opportunities open to them.

Our student’s receive impartial careers advice and we have an excellent record of ensuring that our students secure Post 16 education places.

When students join the Sixth Form they will work closely with Ms Wheaton, Mrs Mason and their sixth form tutors to discuss all their possible options after Year 13. There will be a number of workshops and events based around Careers, Higher Apprenticeships and School Leaver Programmes, but also a greater focus on the UCAS process and University applications.RoQA Award

At Roding Valley we have our own Careers Room and Careers Advisor. Our Careers Room, is open daily from 8.15 – 4.15, Monday – Thursday. We run an ‘open door’ policy for our Careers Room, so (unless there is an interview in progress) students can come in to the Careers Room at any point and look through our resources or speak to Mrs Mason. Students and Parents can also make an appointment in person or via e-mail.
